Why Modern? Modern severs from the past, it’s innovative and enables you to live the fullest during these modern times.

Simply put, classical roots found in French Romantic homes, for example, result in majority of the windows being the same size, despite their orientation to the sun. This is rooted in classical architectural rule of symmetry. Windows are also spaced, not by the function in the room they serve, but by the rule of symmetry that the classicism demands. This is function follows form … the form of the building, widow spacing, etc, come first. Form is the priority, not the function.

With Modern, we design the spaces for you and their function is the priority. We design homes around your life, not around a set of classical rules. This permits us to design a home that fits your needs. This is form follows function … function comes first, then the form. For example, if you do not want windows facing west due to the sun, then we will not put them there. We are not being dictated by classical rules. What are our rules? Yes, proportion still maters, this is inherent in any foundation of architecture. With good modern, it’s the art, the creativity laced into the landscape.

One of the simplest ways I like to describe Modern architecture, if you could pick up a building and shake it until all the unnecessary ornament falls off, then you have modern.

The secret to successful, livable modern is folding the humanity back into the design. This is where the attention to craftsmanship and materiality are vital. We are not machines, we are human. Incorporation of materials that age coupled with a high level of rigor and attention to detail, results in a rich, warm, luxurious environment that is connected to nature.
